Our Aim
Our primary aim is to promote compliance with fisheries management law and policy. If necessary we will take steps to insist on compliance so that all stakeholders can have confidence in the management of marine resources.
Our company's objectives are to:
- promote and inform good fishing practice
- evaluate and promote data on compliance with regulations
- collect catch, bycatch and environmental data for scientific research
- collect data for product export and development purposes
- collect robust data for conversion factor analysis and establishment
- advise on training and education needed at sea
About FAS
FAS is independently owned and operated, is based in Nelson, New Zealand and the company owners are involved full time in the company with all contracts being managed by one or other of the owners.
Our observers are employed on a contract basis, are multi-skilled and interested in issues relating to the use of the natural environment and ways of promoting responsible and well informed fishing practices. They have experience in a variety of aspects of fisheries operations and therefore able to focus on a range of fisheries, environment, auditing and compliance issues in the at sea or catch sector.
